Sibley labels it 1st winter female (Aug-Apr). I got several good looks at the bird from many angles and in good light. Two white wingbars, no eye ring, dark line at the lores, unstreaked breast, soft gray chin and the soft gray continued down the center of the breast, flanks yellow, quite yellow on top of head, but greenish/oliveish on back. No other bird comes close to what I saw this evening. The yellow book gives first arrival date as April 28th. Any thoughts? Also, a flock of about 20 Chimney Swifts performed acrobatics over Elm Avenue to announce their arrival in Hampden this evening.
