It was described as being absolutely crucial to control of the deer, and it was at least suggested that all other deer control measures have been considered and/or put into practice, and still the deer population is increasing. Interests of hunters were placed above those of others (in particular, horseback riders and birders and hikers and bikers) who would like to safely use the out-of-doors on Sundays during hunting season. Counties of Western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore are the most affected. Here on the Eastern Shore, I believe two counties asked to be excluded, along with the many highly-populated counties around Washington. Western Maryland counties wanted the bill to pass. Eastern Shore legislators also favored it, including my own rep for Talbot County. To be sure, this is just the 'foot in the door' - or perhaps better 'the camel's nose in the tent'. In the out years the Sunday Hunting promoters will come back to get approval of Sunday Hunting for the rest of the hunting season - for they will discover that the two Sundays now allowed still did not reverse the growth of the deer population. Surprise, Surprise.
