The total number of species was 43. Aside from usual suspects like N. Cardinal and C. Chickadee, the highlights were: Common Loon 1 Pied-billed Grebe 1 Ring-necked Duck 2 (been there a LONG time) Hooded Merganser 1 (female, the biggest surprise of the afternoon) Red-shouldered Hawk soaring with snake in talons Caspian Tern 1 Eastern Kingbird 1 (below dam, year's first) Blue-headed Vireo 1 (singing, year's first Northern Parula 2 Yellow Warbler 6 (mostly below the dam, one way out beyond Fore Bay, year's first) Yellow-rumped Warbler everywhere you looked, no count Palm Warbler 4 Black and White Warbler 1 (male, up a side trail) White-throated Sparrow 7 Field Sparrow 4 My wife spotted the first Ruby-throated Hummingbird of the year at our feeder in Ellicott City this afternoon.
