The Double-crested Cormorants are still on the nest on the island opposite mile marker 8. The nests look much more substantial than when I first located them a month ago; with the trees beginning to leaf out it is more difficult to count them but there are at least 10 occupied nests. I also came across several firsts for me this season in Md - including Orchard Oriole and Eastern Kingbird along the towpath. The only warblers in evidence, however, were the earlier returning Yellow-throated and Parula, as well as many, many Yellow-rumped.
