I'm probably a lot like most of you with regards to my birding habits. I =
have my trails, hotspots, and times that I habitually follow. But this =
morning I wanted to do something different. So, I found a spot in the =
middle of a forested area in Black Hills Park and just sat there. Sorta =
like my own "big sit" (but much shorter). I literally sat in one place =
for 1.5 hrs and simply observed. What I saw/heard included:
Great-Crested FlyCatchers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Prairie Warbler, =
Towhees, BC Chickadee, N. Flicker, Pileated WP (heard, not seen), =
White-Eyed Vireo, B. Jays, and many White-Tailed Deer (did you know they =
snort!).

Very peaceful.

Afterward, I returned to my habit of walking trails and was rewarded =
with B. Thrashers, Field and Chipping Sparrows, an abundance of Gold =
Finches. I also heard, hunted down, and found what turned out to be some =
small Flycatcher. It was brown/tan above, yellowish below, 2 wing-bars. =
I thought "Least", but the song doesn't match what I know. So, I'm still =
stumped on that one. Maybe next time I'll get a better look!
