And further on: "Green Herons bait for fish with a variety of baits and lures..." including crusts of bread, mayflies, feathers, twigs, leaves, berries, earthworms, flies and other insects ("Success rate highest when live bait used"). Amazing! I've never seen it myself, but will keep a sharp eye out the next time I see one of these birds. Thanks for passing along the anecdotes, June.
