However, I did manage to sneak away from the firehouse for a few minutes to see if any spring migrants have arrived. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few things have filtered in. A pair of Savannah Sparrows where seen in their usual place. In the same area I found many Goldfinches as well as two Common Yellowthroats, a singing Parula, and a Blue Grosbeak. Last year I had Blue Grosbeaks nesting in this area. Perhaps they will again. The grosbeak and the parula seem to be very aggressive towards eachother. Along a nearby hedge row I heard a singing House Wren and a Gray Catbird was a nice surprise. A female Red Breasted Merganser was seen being lazy on some bay- side rip-rap and a lone Red-necked Grebe was seen swimming along the Rail Road bridge at the mouth of the Susquehanna River on the Cecil side. Also a pair of Rough-winged Swallows were busy feeding along the river's edge (in the air of course)... Two very strange misses this afternoon were Mallard and Red-winged Blackbird. They are usually VERY conspicuous around here.
