Comments: cc: pkreiss@toadmail.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The day began with a thin drizzle, but looked up as Paul and I walked down a side street to access Leakin Park and saw both a Veery and an Indigo Bunting actually on the road. Two Cardinals then set down and squared off face to face, wings drooping. It's uncommon to find sandpipers in the park, and we were fortunate this morning to have long looks at a Spotted Sandpiper bobbing over the rocks in the Gwynns Falls. Highlights also included a much put upon Barred Owl, and an Orchard Oriole singing on a tree snag. We saw a Baltimore Oriole shortly afterwards, and actually saw (as opposed to merely heard) several Wood Thrush and Veerys. Also, we had several good looks at a singing Northern Waterthrush; one of 13 warbler species seen. Interesting sights included a Hummingbird chasing off a White-throated Sparrow; and two Bluegray Gnatcatchers harassing a Grackle. The Barred Owl was chased from an evergreen to a second vine-covered tree where two persistent Crows fluttered wings in its face and pecked in the vicinity of its head. I saw one Crow pulling at vines with its beak, and wondered what that was about. A third Crow took more of a back seat, as did a Blue Jay. We also saw a nesting Robin, and one of a pair of Phoebes take nesting materials under a bridge. The list is below; we only took the trouble to count some of the birds. 1. Mallard 2.
