I noted your reference to being a Michigander. Ornithologically speaking, aren't you really a Michigoose? Yeah, I know, that's an old one. I first heard it from a prof. in Ann Arbor 25 years ago. Leo Weigant >>> clcarroll@VOYAGER.NET 05/05/03 01:16PM >>> This morning I met Keith Eric Costley at Marriottsville and Wards Chapel Rds. and between 6:30a and 9:45a despite the cold, gray weather we searched for and found our target birds, the Yellow-throated Warbler and Cerulean Warbler. We also had close and clear views of a Swainson's Thrush that popped out of the woods onto the dirt road with a Wood Thrush. To find the Cerulean Warbler we parked just over the Howard County line and walked up the "purple trail" where we heard 3 or 4 Ceruleans singing and, with persistance, were able to get quick views of one or two. Finally, as we were preparing to leave, and the rain was coming down harder, Keith found a silent Yellow-throated Warbler busy in a roadside Sycamore with a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers. I came tantalizingly close to seeing the Yellow-throated Warbler yesterday - life bird for this native Michigander - on a trip to Jug Bay with Steve Sanford and Gail Franz as we heard them singing in two different locations there.
