The new boardwalk is open at the gardens, which gives a great view into nice marsh -- looks like great rail habitat, especially if the wild rice comes back this year. At the gardens, we saw and heard quite a few migrants as well as the local breeders. Most of the migrants were along the River Trail. Warblers: Yellow-rumped (~100), Black-and-White (1), Black-throated Green (1), Black-throated Blue (1), Blue-winged (1), Blackpoll (5), Magnolia (1), Nashville (2), Northern Waterthrush (1), Parula (5), Prothonotary (1), Common Yellowthroat (6), Yellow (8). Others: Wood Thrush (2), Scarlet Tanager (4), Orchard Oriole (5), Baltimore Oriole (5), White-eyed Vireo (6), Red-eyed Vireo (15), Warbling Vireo (3), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (1, male), Blue Grosbeak (1 male singing in no-mow area of KP), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (4), Indigo Bunting (12), Bobolink (8, both KAG and KP), Savannah Sparrow (6, one carrying food, all in no-mow area), Kestrel (1, male, KP back area), Killdeer (1, agitated, KP back area), Solitary Sandpiper (1), Spotted Sandpiper (2), Caspian tern (6, in flock going up-river). No sign of the KP Grasshopper Sparrows yet, nor the Least Terns reported earlier.
