Today we recorded Yellow-billed Cuckoo (cu-cu-cu-ing just before the rain, hence "Rain Crow"), Veery, Swainson's, Hermit and Wood Thrushes and 15 species of warbler: Nashville, Northern Parula, Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Prairie, Blackpoll, Black-and-white, American Redstart, Ovenbird and Common Yellowthroat. To round out the morning we also saw Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting and Baltimore Oriole. White-throated Sparrows are still in the woods. The first Eastern Wood-Pewee of the season joined the Acadian and Great-crested Flycatchers along the stream valley. The dense foliage is making clear views somewhat of a rarity, especially for the warblers. Paul O'Brien Rockville, Mont.
