Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi all -- Well, we tried to do a May count at Rock Creek Park, DC -- and it started off very well despite some threatening dark clouds at 7 am. But then at 9 am the thunderstorms came through and although we waited for over an hour, it never cleared up enough to continue -- plus the bird activity had quieted considerably. Nevertheless, a good turnout of birds (and birders) at the ridge -- this, plus the lower end of the "dog run" is all we got to before the storm. In the line of migrants, we tallied: Warblers (seen and heard): Black-and-White (12), Black-throated Blue (15-20), Black-throated Green (4), Bay-breasted (2), Blackburnian (2), Blackpoll (8), "Brewster's" (1, dog run), Canada (3), Chestnut-sided (5), Hooded (1), Magnolia (5), Myrtle (60), Ovenbird (6), Palm (1, western), Redstart (10), Parula (12), Louisiana Waterthrush (1), Northern Waterthrush (1), Nashville (1), Tennessee (1), Wilson's (1), Yellow (1), Yellowthroat (8). (22 species) Other migrants were less cooperative: Yellow-billed Cuckoo (4), Scarlet Tanager (4), Baltimore Oriole (1), Cedar Waxwing (~40), Red-eyed Vireo (12), Blue-headed Vireo. However, the thrushes are now definitely here, with a number of Swainson's seen and heard. We had 3. Wish we could have had the whole morning!
