Subject: Common Terns+ in DC Comments: cc: Janni Ottavio MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I spent this (Sat, 5/10) morning at Fletcher's Boathouse before the rains kicked in. Only migrant passerine was 1 BLACKPOLL, but breeders were quite evident. Numbers of BALTIMORE ORIOLES and WARBLING VIREOS, plus a few YELLOW-THROATED and PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS, and NO. PARULAS. Loads of BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS around, but no Yellow-crowneds. On Chain Bridge there were 2 CLIFF SWALLOWS in with BARNS & ROUGH-WINGEDS and 3 PURPLE MARTINS. On the river by the boathouse was 1 COMMON LOON, and another flew over. Later in the day I went to Hains Point were I saw 4 COMMON TERNS flying south from the mouth of the Washington Channel. A few minutes later I watched a loose flock of 17 COMMON TERNS flying north up the river. I hung out a few minutes longer to see if anything else of interest would fly by, but the best I could do was 1 CASPIAN TERN. The RED-NECKED GREBE continued on the river. Finally, I completely forget to mention that I saw a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER on the Hains Pt. Golf Course on Thursday (5/8) morning. It was near the fence on the Channel side, but got spooked by lawn mowers and helicopters. I couldn't relocate it, nor could Rob Hilton, who looked for it later in the day.
