Before the rain started this morning I heard several warblers, seeing only Yellow-rumped, but had good looks at a pair of Scarlet Tanagers, Eastern Kingbirds -- which I don't often have in my "yard" -- and a Great Crested Flycatcher, my first of the season. Mid-afternoon, when the rain took a serious break, I walked most of my unorthodox "yard"; since I have none, I count anything found within sight of my apartment building, including the roof. I had 44 species for the day, but I'm sure there were more, as my voice i.d. skills are sadly lacking. Warblers seen -- good looks despite the overcast: N Parula Magnolia Yellow-rumped Blackpoll Black-and-white Kentucky Common Yellowthroat -- at least 2, probably 3 Also heard Yellow, BT Blue & Prairie (I think). And other unidentified songs. Other birds of interest: Wood Duck, female with 12 (count 'em!) small ducklings on Rock Creek between Q & P Streets. Saw them float under Q yesterday. B-C Night Herons, constant stream Cedar Waxwing, 1 only Swainson's Thrush, 3 definite plus 2 I didn't get a good look at Wood Thrush, 2 (both singing) Quite a good day in my little neck of the woods! -- Carrol Cowan Washington DC ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
