Quite incredible with numbers and diversity. (even with an almost complete lack of raptors/flyovers) May count netted us more warblers than I have seen for in quite some time. Rockburn hosted 22 species of warblers and good numbers of most. 10 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS (7 on my feeders at one time). 2 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS together up by the "haunted house". > Today we went and chased some birds- a COMMON MOORHEN was still on the island at Font Hill off Centennial Lane. While watching the moorhen we heard a calling BB Cuckoo. By the font hill pond we had a LEAST FLYCATCHER. Dipped on the snowy egret at Elkhorn but other birders found a singing least there also. > Thought we'd see what was at Middle Patuxent and although we had nowhere near yesterday's numbers we found some great birds. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER on the trail down to marker 14. A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH among many VEERY, SWAINSON and WOOD THRUSHES. A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was one of 19 warbler species found. > Got home to a very nice surprise. A singing ALDER FLYCATCHER behind the house. (have not seen it for the last couple hours though). > While tallying my May count totals yesterday I had a CHAT singing in the locust off the deck. Both the chat and alder are new yard birds. > > Bonnie Ott > Howard County Field Trip Chair > Ellicott City, MD > bonnie1163@comcast.net > > ======================================================================= > To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com > with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey > ======================================================================= Bonnie - Please post a picture of your feeders set-up.
