It was a good day, started off with my life Yellow-billed Loon en route and ended with life Skylarks on San Juan islands (now also extirpated, apparently due to introduced foxes and feral cats). They were cute, dumpy self-important little birds as they waddled along the sidewalk picking up food items (they were nesting behind a bank building sign). I am sorry they are gone-- also sorry about the Skylarks, as I saw them where Kenn Kaufman first did, as he describes in his book "Kingbird Highway" -- singing aloft.
