I checked five of my six Prothonotary boxes along the C&O Canal this AM with
the following results:

       Riley's Lock

             #1 - Female sitting tightly, number of eggs unknown
             #2 - 4 warbler eggs, 1 cowbird egg.  Appropriate action taken.
             #3 - 5 warbler eggs.  Female has odd black forehead.  Hybrid?
             #4 - Completely empty

       Violettes Lock

             #1 - Water plants had touched stake, allowing ants to build nest
on top of
                    leaves placed there this spring, probably by a warbler.
Plants
                    removed.  Perhaps second nesting site.

       Pennyfield Lock

             #1 - Chickadees had nest with 4 eggs three weeks ago.  Not
checked
                    today.
