Subject: More DC Birds - 5/17 Comments: cc: Janni Ottavio MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I hit some of the same spots that Mike Bowen hit this morning, plus the Arboretum before heading to Sandy Point SP (which was a dreadfully slow - DC was much better). Some of my highlights: CATTLE EGRET - Mike already mentioned this one, it was still there when I swung back through at 2 pm. NO. SHOVELER - 1st yr. male at Hains Pt. Interestingly, I stopped by the mouth of 4-mile Run yesterday and saw this bird. I was surprised to refind it today at Hains. SEMIPALMATED PLOVER - in the far parking lot of KP GREATER YELLOWLEGS - 2 at Hains, also there yesterday LESSER YELLOWLEGS - 1 at Hains LEAST SANDPIPER - up to 4 at Hains between yesterday and today, plus another at KP And as Mike pointed out, lots and lots of SOLITARY & SPOTTED SANDPIPERS about WILLOW FLYCATCHER - 1 heard at KAG (the other spot in DC where they breed) GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH - 1 at Arb PINE WARBLER - still singing at the Arb WILSON'S WARBLER - 1 at KP GRASSHOPPER SPARROW - 1 at KP, on territory Need to plant myself at KAG to wait for those Least Terns to come downriver from Bladensburg. Thanks Dave, for pointing out that they're still around.
