We managed to = find 77 species although at times it was like pulling teeth with the = rather sparse song chorous. Among our highlights were a Great Egret near = the Delaware line on MD-330, Semipalmated and Black-bellied Plovers (70 = of the latter on MD-330 just east of Massey), a brood of Wood Ducks on = Walnut Tree Rd, a Solitary Sandpiper along MD-330 just east of Black = Bottom Rd, a very good look at a Worm-eating Warbler on a trail south of = No. 10 School Rd, a very good voice comparison of singing Blackpoll and = Bay-breasted Warblers on Walnut Tree Rd, Swainson's Thrush along a wood = road, wood-pewees feeding in a small corn field from corn stalks like = phoebes, and a one-year-old male Scarlet Tanager with a single red = wing-bar on its median coverts. We capped the day with a pair of Barred = Owls that came in to my hooting on Black Bottom Rd. A couple of Turkey = Vultures came over and dive bombed the owls - you could hear the air = rushing in their flight feathers! Nancy and I are doing a Kent County Big Day tomorrow - so I continued on = with some scouting at Chesapeake (was Remington) Farms. There were lots = of swallows on the ponds including a Cliff Swallow on the main viewing = pond off Ricauds Branch Rd. I also saw a pair of Greater Scaup, a Ruddy = Duck, a fly-by Great Egret, and a Dunlin on the main pond. Along the = tour there were two Spotted Sandpipers, and two Black Terns - the latter = on the pond closest to MD-20 on the tour. I sure hope the salt I put on = their tails keeps 'em here for tomorrow.
