I was at Ft Howard = County Park on Saturday 5/17/03 and observed 8 pairs of Least Terns in = courtship behavior. It seems a bit far for these birds to be nesting = pairs from the rooftop nesting site at Sparrows Point High School which = is about 3-4 miles away. I don't know whose Atlas Block the Park is in = but could they be nesting on the roofs of buildings at Ft Howard Medical = Center which for the most part is now closed up with very little human = activity? I would be curious to hear any comments from local birders. = Thanks Now for shorebird sightings at Point Lookout and vicinity. On = 5/19/03 on the corner of Rt 5 and Longneck Rd is a newly planted corn or = soybean field with numerous water puddles from the recent rains I = observed the following, Solitary Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, = Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover and Ruddy Turnstone. The Ruddy = Turnstone was especially nice to get as it can be difficult to see in St = Mary's Co and it was of course not in the right habitat. On 5/20/03 I = stopped again at the same location and while I saw the same birds minus = the Ruddy Turnstone I had a group of 12 Whimbrels fly by fast, high and = heading north. This is the largest number of Whimbrels I have seen at = one time in Maryland and capped off a pleasant birding morning at Point = Lookout. Good Birding to all, Marty Cribb, Point Lookout, St Mary's Co, = Md =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =========================================================================
