As we were heading back to our cars at UMBC, an adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron flew by, heading south towards Patapsco Valley State Park. Last year we had YCNH for five days in the park in May; it was first found at "Lost Lake," and then spent time on the river. Kevin Omland had seen YCNH at UMBC just a week or two ago, so sightings seem to be getting somewhat regular. At the Mears Farm we were able to confirm Prairie Warbler for the atlas. We had a singing male, and a female carrying nesting material. We also had one Yellow-breasted Chat singing in the same area (beyond the back gate of the pasture). A singing Brown Thrasher at UMBC was a most welcome sight, as this bird was very scarce in the Relay NW atlas block last year. A pair of Wood Ducks, with two ducklings, continues at the Storm Water Management Pond there.
