Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi all -- Quite a bit of activity at the ridge (picnic areas 17/18 and nearby) in Rock Creek today, much more bird song, only five die-hard birders though. We all managed to enjoy a nice early movement of warblers before the heavy rains set in, including low-level, eye-filling views of a singing male Blackburnian. It was also quite interesting to view the phenomenon of migrants literally dropping in from the sky as the rain started, into the treetops and (unfortunately, in many cases) out of sight! Many birds remained unidentified in the dark light. Birds seen and heard (from about 6:30 to 8 am) included: Warblers: Blackpoll (~20, including a number of females), Black-and-White (2), Blackburnian (1), Black-throated Blue (1), Canada (2), Chestnut-sided (2), Magnolia (4), Myrtle (8), Ovenbird (3), Parula (1), Redstart (3), Tennessee (1). Others: Red-eyed Vireo (15), Veery (1), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (3), Scarlet Tanager (2).
