Despite the evidence of our eyes, the sounds seemed to be right in front of us, coming from the trunk of a wild cherry tree. The bark was damaged and healed over in a couple of long, oval shaped patches. I examined the top one, only about 2.5 ft. off the ground, and found myself looking into a small dark area at the base, in which thin yellow lines moved. I was able to make out two sets of beaks outlined in yellow, and eyes. I couldn't see much else. I would never have expected a possible cavity there, just from the appearance. I may have an explanation for the behavior of a Titmouse that has three times scrabbled against my kitchen window pane, right in front of my face, to all appearances trying to gain entry. I don't feel fighting its refection is an option. The sun wasn't right, and the window is not that sparkly clean. Am thinking it was gathering spider web from the outside corner. Saw no mention of spider web as nesting material in the last Atas or the Peterson guide to nests, but that corner is where it was concentrating its efforts.
