How it went undetected I don't know (deer tick) but I did get it out within just a few hours. When I bird in summer months, like in my Atlas blocks, I generally wear short pants and can usually feel the ticks crawling up my leg, where I quickly remove them. I used to make sure I would kill them, but they've become so commonplace that now I just remove them back to their habitat. After birding a bit at Layhill Park during the past week, I was driving in to work and had a nice big fat Dog Tick crawling across the dashboard as I drove. Made for a bit of harrowing, swerving driving I might add. They are insidious. Last summer my youngest daughter , who was already on antibiotics for something or other, developed a bullseye ring on her thigh. We had her checked at the DR's and they said it was likely a deer tick bite, and the mark lasted quite a while. So beware, even while taking antibiotics and you get bitten, a bullseye CAN show up (or not). We were lucky. We assume she picked up the tick at soccer practice, playing on a rather "natural" field in her coach's backyard.
