Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi -- We decided to go to Rock Creek Park, DC, today to see if there might be some migrants about -- especially looking for flycatchers which have proved somewhat thin on the ground this season. A nice little flurry of migrant activity early at the ridge (picnic areas 17/18) produced a number of warblers and red-eyed vireos, but almost everywhere else was very very quiet. Not helped by the damp, dark weather of course. We did have a very interesting, very warm-toned, short-primaried thrush that other than the color looked like a Gray-cheeked, but we didn't have it very long -- however, we're suspicious that it was a Bicknell's. (It was silent). Unless we get a day with sun and warm, southerly winds, I think this is it for us at Rock Creek. Time to do our Atlas blocks! Birds seen/heard: Blackpoll (10), Blackburnian (1), Chestnut-sided (2), Magnolia (5), Ovenbird (3), Parula (1), Redstart (3), Tennessee (1), Yellowthroat (4). Myrtle -- zero! Others: Red-eyed Vireo (12), Swainson's Thrush (1), Veery (1), Gray-cheeked/Bicknell's-type (1), Scarlet Tanager (1), Wood pewee (4), Acadian Flycatcher (2).
