It was pretty slow birding this morning. However a few interesting migrant showed up. Along the densely forested entrance road to the Perryville Town Park two separate pairs of Scarlet Tanager were observed with at least one singing male among the pairs. At least 5 Great-crested Flycatchers were found singing. There were at least 3 Eastern Wood Pewees singing as well. There were 6 or 7 other flycatchers hawking in the top of the poplar trees. I was unable to ID them as the light conditions were horrible and they were silent. They were however empid-like in general appearance. Other birds in the woods included a flyover pair of Wood Ducks, at least three singing Wood Thrushes and a few singing Red-eyed Vireos. Along the waterfront in front of Building 361 I found a relatively large flock of passerines pushing through the trees that line the beach. Nine out of ten birds were Black Poll Warblers. Others in the lose flock were Yellow Warbler, Pine Warbler, Blue-headed vireo, and Red-eyed Vireo. In the eagle nest near the complex's gate there was a first year Bald Eagle standing in the nest. This is the first time this year I have seen the eaglets in the nest. Other migrants around were: Chimney Swift, Barn, Tree, NRW, and Bank Swallows.
