I did just that while birding in Dorchester County last September. It has flu-like symptoms - high fever, achy joints, etc. as well as involving the liver. and begins approximately 10 days after being bit. I was also too casual about checking for ticks and overlooked them. Thankfully, I also had a physician who was familiar with Ehrlichiosis symptoms, was tested, and placed on antibiotics fast. I now use permytherin religiously and check carefully every time I am in the field. Also remeber that ticks will travel on you - where ever you might go - I have found them days later crawling around the interior of my car.
