While force-feeding would not be feasible for keeping an animal in captivity for an indefinite period of time, it is perfectly feasible in the case of an animal in recovery. It is not too dissimilar from the way that parent birds feed their young. I disagree with the idea that it is always better to leave an obviously sick or injured animal in its environment. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not, it depends on the circumstances.
