Overall the weekend was great, good breeders, lingering migrants, neat shorebirds, and some nocturnal migration. Kim Caughey and Zach Baer joined me for much of the weekend. Highights: Swan Harbor Farm - on Friday, a few peeps, 1 White-rump, 12 Dunlin, 13 Semi Plovers, lingering Solitaries and Greater Yellowlegs. On Monday, 165 Dunlin, 19 Short-billed Dowitchers, 38 Semi Sands, 19 Leasts, 4 Semi Plovers, 1 Solitary, 1 Spotted, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, and 1 Lesser Yellowlegs. 2 Bobolinks also present. This place is fantastic right now. I recommend any county listers to take advantage, I'll be back tomorrow. Take Oakington Rd south from Rt. 40 between Aberdeen and Havre de Grace and follow the signs to the Swan Harbor. Landbird Migrants: White-throated Sparrow on Saturday at Eden Mill. 2 Canada Warblers and a Black-throated Green at Susquehanna SP on Sunday. 2 more Canadas and a Magnolia on a private farm SW of Rocks on Sunday. Blackpolls everywhere. Calling Alder Flycatcher (county bird!!!) at the same farm with Veery and Swainson's Thrush. Nocturnal Migration: Fair numbers of birds going over when the rain would stop on Saturday and Monday nights. Saturday had numerous Swainson's with several Gray-cheeks and 2 Bicknell's Thrushes. Also 2 Bobolinks, Spotted Sandpiper and numerous unidentified warblers. Monday had a good flight of presumed Blackpoll Warblers (obviously most likely, but so many other warblers sound like that) and a few Swainson's and Gray-cheeks. PS. Thanks to everyone who sent me public and private messages of congratulations about the Great Texas Birding Classic. In case you were wondering we donated our $20,000 Conservation prize to the Port Bolivar Wetlands Protection project. I certainly wouldn't be able to participate in such events without everything I've learned from the Maryland birding community. Thank you.
