McDonald" Subject: Re: Tick-related MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Scrounging around on the CDC website suggests that Ehrlichiosis (HME)(Human Monocytic Erhlichiosis) is carried by a third type of tick, the lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum), a hard tick similar in size to the dog tick, but with a less elongated body. This is the disease that shows up on the southeast quadrant of the US. HGE Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis is carried by the deer tick and is seen in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York. Seems like doxycycline or amoxicillen are the treatment of choice for the tick borne diseases. Lyme disease can be debilitating; Ehrlichiosis can be fatal.
