A friend of mine died very suddenly almost three years ago (heart attack - he was only 30). He was a wildlife biologist and a birder, and had worked with Golden Eagles and ground squirrels, among other critters (as he called them). At the cemetery where he is buried, in Mt. Airey, there are bluebird boxes posted on the peripheral fences. The bluebirds were everywhere the day of his funeral, the sky virtually cloudless. A day he would have loved. It's nice to think of him being surrounded by birds...Hope this wasn't too maudlin for anyone - I'm not terribly sentimental about death, but at the time it seemed poetic. Along the 'birding in cemeteries' line, I used to live in 'Old' Bowie, right behind a cemetery. Turkey Vultures used to roost there, and you could usually find one or two on the ground among the graves... Oh, and the House Sparrows I talked about yesterday are alive and well...
