MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" From the Animal Files in the Washington Post today - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A36560-2003May24.html The Cockatiel is a stretch, but I think the Woodcock should count for the Atlas, right? This stuff is worth paying attention to during the spring and summer. They find cool birds in neighborhoods that I wouldn't dare enter. Now I'm inspired to look for Woodcocks in my Atlas Block too! Cockatiel Loiters in Metro Station 20th and Q Streets NW, May 11. A police officer called animal control to report a stray cockatiel near an escalator at the Dupont Circle Metro station. An animal control officer caught the female and took it to the D.C. shelter. When no one claimed it, the bird was transferred to a bird rescue group. Woodcock Flies Through Window Massachusetts Ave. NW, 2400 block, May 12. A woman called animal control after a woodcock flew through an open window and fell on the floor, motionless. An animal control officer found the bird, which had a chest wound. It was transferred to a wildlife rehabilitator.
