This afternoon, 6/08, while atlasing my block in SE Baltimore city I saw and
heard a voceriferous Alder Flycatcher. I stayed with him awhile and then
continued on thinking I would find him again when I returned. In a
differently habitated part of this block I also found Willow Flycatcher and
Least Flycatcher. When I returned an hour or so later to refind the Alder
Flycatcher he was completely silent and no where to be seen. Last Sunday,
6/01, again while atlasing, I thought I heard the Alder in the same general
area but was in a hurry and put it out of my mind thinking that I must
certainly be mistaken. The blue book gives the Alder's safe date as 6/10
probably meaning for Garrett and Allegany counties. The yellow book shows a
question mark for Alder Flycatcher breeding in Baltimore. I'll try to keep
an eye on this bird over the next week or so. I did not see or hear the
Acadian Flycatcher or Great-crested Flycatcher. Finally, I confirmed
Eastern Kingbird on nest, and Carolina Wren and House Finch with fledglings.
