While atlasing yesterday, I saw a singing male on an island in the Potomac just south of Swain's Lock along the C&O Canal (about two miles north of Great Falls). Other highlights were non-avian. A snapping turtle was basking on a log in the canal (canoeists, don't dangle your fingers!) and a muskrat was nibbling vegetation on the bank.
