Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2003 21:45:11 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Bill Ellis Subject: Probable Brewster's Warbler at Morgan Run In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sunday afternoon, while atlasing at Morgan Run Natural Environment Area, I spotted a Blue-winged looking warbler, but with a single elongated oval of yellow on the gray wing (like a Golden-winged Warbler). No other wing markings; no white on the wings. It had a yellow crown, throat, breast, and belly, and thin black eyeline, but no other black markings, like an adult male Blue-winged. It most closely resembled the female Brewster's shown in Warblers of the Americas by Curson/Quinn/Beadle, plate 1, bird 2e, in which the two yellow wing bars seem to be merged into one yellow patch. It did not resemble any of the Blue-winged/Golden-winged hybrids shown in big Sibley. Morgan Run has quite a few Blue-winged Warblers, based on the singing I've heard over the past 6 weeks. I saw American White Pelicans this week, too, but they were sitting on the Arkansas River near Pine Bluff, AR.
