Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2003 19:27:55 -0700 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Kevin Graff Subject: Clapper Rail chicks at Ocean City In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi all, Saturday night around 830pm in the Hammock area of small marshy pond between Ocean City Park n Ride and Ocean City Fishing Center, was a possible a Clapper Rail with three tiny black chicks (probably about one-two days old. It hard to see the adult rail in the overcast sky at 830pm make it look dark early. It was seen very close at the boardwalk next to the park n ride across from the wooded bridge for cars to cross still at the Park N Ride. Other birds seen during day at the marshy area was oystercatchers, willets, forster's tern, brown pelicans, imm. black-crowned Night Heron, both egrets, skimmers, a lot of gulls. While walking on the boardwalk at the inlet at 3am in the morning Sat, several Herring Gulls still awake and eating fries at parking lot at the inlet, skimmers and terns also see flying around between 3 and 4 in the morning.
