Less time to bird/explore than we thought, but still some time for interesting sightings. Got some new 2003 birds and new lifers as well! Sat 6/14 EASTON: Many Osprey flyovers, and a Bald Eagle. (Where are all the Red-Tailed Hawks on Delmarva????). CENTERVILLE: Many TV's, a few Black Vultures joining them ('03). Fish Crows calling during the ceremony! ('03) Brown Thrasher and GC Flycather on the grounds (Conquest Beach) Sun 6/15 OCEAN CITY (SKIMMER ISLAND) - one Oystercatcher ('03), , one Brown Pelican, many Laughing Gulls ('03) and Herrings, some DB Cormorants at about noon. The US50 drawbridge has a fly over Black Skimmer ('03) later in the afternoon. ASSATEAGUE ISLAND: Old Ferry Landing: Glossy Ibis (Lifer), some Laughing Gulls and Willets At the end of the boardwalk out over the saltmarsh Life of the Forest Trail: Eastern Towhee ('03), M/F pair. Yellow-Throated Warbler (Lifer), two Common Nighthawks ('03), broad daylight, apparently having a territorial dispute. Also 50-100 ticks found on our person (Lone Star) brought this hike to a premature close! Be careful here! (We weren't even off the trail!) The Beach: nothing but lots of RVs and SUVs! (And a few Willets) NASSAWANGO CR TNC (Worcester Co): MAde it too late, the trail closed with the visitor center! (Though this looks like an area well worth returning to). Birded the parking lot area a bit: Pine Warbler, Ovenbird persistently singing, Yellow-Billed Cuckoo ('03), Tufted Titmouse. SHAD LANDING POCOMOKE RIVER SP near SNOW HILL: Near the Canoe Launch: great view of a Yellow-Throated Vireo (singing too), Brown Headed Nuthatch (lifer),other singers across the river that I am not familiar with! Also Carolina Chickadee ('03), same area. field near GIRDLETREE, MD (Worcester Co): Blue Grosbeak ('03) and Indigo Bunting foraging in same field! At dusk, a Great Horned owl was seen. Mon 6/16. CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE,near the bridge peak, a pair of Osprey, apparently engaged in a mating ritual or getting ready to mate! Couldn't stay around for obvious reasons! Not much at Sandy Point, we were at Ft. McHenry briefly mid-afternoon, but missed the Grasshopper Sparrow and Western Kingbird, darn! Thanks to all of you who sent e-mail with advice. While I didn't have as much time as I hoped, we were still able to see some cool things thanks to your messages! Hopefully someone will be find a bird they need from this report as well. Good birding, Maryland! Greg Coniglio Buffalo, ny (If anyone needs S. Ontario or W.
