But I can say that Schoodic Point (part of Acadia N.P.) has Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker and Boreal Chickadee. It is where the boreal zone intersects the coast of Maine. We had the woodpecker walking down from the top of Schoodic "mountain" on the foot trail -- it was making very soft taps, they are quite quiet WPs. Also, you want to try and get to the first part of the road in to the mountain as early as possible, we had the Grouse on the road but we were the first folks there. The road around Schoodic Pt. is a one-way loop so watch for the turn carefully. We had the chickadee with Black-caps in trees - heard its very nasal call. Acadia proper has Red Crossbills and also, lots of warbler species breeding. Offshore expect Eider Ducks, Black Guillemots and Arctic Terns (also Common). Maybe Roseate as well. I would take a wahal-watching trip out and hop[efully you might run into some more pelagic species such as Great Shearwater or Leach's SP. Hope this helps, Gail Mackiernan on 06/18/2003 6:42 PM, Sharon Schwemmer at sharons@CARR.ORG wrote: > Hello, > Does anyone have any favorite birding spots near Bar Harbor, Maine?
