Janet,
I believe the high water will certainly affect duck breeding success
this year. Many nest in the flood plain, or in the case of Wood Ducks in
trees above the flood plain. Nests and downy young have probably been
washed away. I have yet to confirm a Mallard this year though I frequently
see pairs of them about. I have seen a few downy Wood Ducks but I wonder
how many of them have survived. I hope there are some re-nesting attempts
this summer.
