Many nest in the flood plain, or in the case of Wood Ducks in trees above the flood plain. Nests and downy young have probably been washed away. I have yet to confirm a Mallard this year though I frequently see pairs of them about. I have seen a few downy Wood Ducks but I wonder how many of them have survived. I hope there are some re-nesting attempts this summer.
