Gail, I, too, am very careful. Years ago I watched an B.Oriole nest being built just outside our upstairs window, the incubation, and then bringing of food. Looking out one morning I saw the nest in tatters and what I think was a hatchling hanging by a foot from it. It was probably a natural occurance, preditor, poorly built nest, etc. but I feared I had put out too long a piece of yarn or string. The Orioles never nested here again.
