(U.S. Army Corps) adjacent to Howard University. Among the many Canada Geese and their goslings I saw two birds that didn't fit with the group. One Red Necked Grebe in breeding plumage. Not in the best plumage color or condition, but certainly in summer feathers. One fabulous male Red Breasted Merganser. Could they be on their way back here, or did this one never leave? Are they breeding here? Our weather feels more like an Anchorage summer than a DC summer so far. If you want to go check them out drive to Children's Hospital and park on the West Side area near Michigan and Wader. Both birds were seen on the North side tending over to the East.
