I'm going to be in Chincoteague next week for the 4th and have always wanted to check out Deal Island, MD - thanks to the Claudia Wilds book. Has anyone been there lately? I imagine it is pretty good for Rails. Is it a good time of year to visit? Any recommendations or tips are welcome. I am woefully lacking in Rail species on my life list. Any recommendations on Whippoorwills or Chuckwills Widows would be great too - they would also be life birds. Can I play tapes for nightjars and hope for a response like with owls? Is it too much to ask if a Painted Bunting has visited that area this year?
