This is a great time for atlasing. Lots of birds feeding young now. I added 18 confirms in one of my blocks yesterday to bring it up to 45. I'm still holding a couple blocks for you when you are done at home. They are similar to the one I was working in yesterday, Union Bridge CE which has 6 sparrow species to 3 warblers, and no quarterblocks. Highlights of the day were a singing male Blue Grosbeak, only my second of the year, and a Bald Eagle. Blue Grosbeaks seem to start setting up territories here in June as I rarely find them in May. The eagle was an adult and was in the flooded field where I found a flock of Killdeer the day before. It was just sitting in the mud. After it flew off I wandered around to some other roads to check on various birds and about an hour later found probably the same eagle sitting in a mowed hay field about 3.5 miles away. I don't know where it came from but I now have Bald Eagle "O" in two blocks. I worked entirely from roads and neighborhoods and was amazed at the number of species I found. I was delighted to find a pair of PEWEES nestbuilding. Fledgling ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS also. A HOODED WARBLER in a backyard was the first for my block. I have now found 87 species in my block, 50 confirmed and have "closed out" 26 species in all 4 quarterblocks. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
