Dickcissels MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello All, While atlasing on Saturday morning, I found 3 Dickcissels in southern Caroline County. The first bird was found on Pepper Rd. From Federalsburg, go west on MD 318 toward Preston. Take the 2nd right onto Pepper Rd. The Dickcissel was singing from the power line above a weedy field on the right, just before crossing a small bridge. When I visited this spot on 6/8, there was no Dickcissel apparent then. North of the bridge on the left is an old barn where I believe Kestrel are nesting, but I cannot see the nest. The second field with Dickcissel was found on Statum Rd where there were 2 singing males. Take MD 16 south from Denton toward Harmony. About a half mile north of Harmony, turn left on Nagel Rd. At the intersection by the grain mill, turn left on Statum Rd and continue until there are fields on both sides that have a buffer strip planted along the road. Both birds were in the strip on the left / northwest side. This was my first trip down this road. In both cases, I saw only the singing males and no evidence females or breeding circumstances. If anyone looks for these birds and finds more evidence of breeding than I did, please let me know so that I can upgrade them from 'X' to something better.
