It is always fun to see = Blackburnian and Magnolia Warblers, Purple Finches, and Rose-breasted = Grosbeaks this time of year. One of my highlights this weekend was a = Hermit Thrush chorus in one of my atlas blocks. It is one of my = favorite singers and I was surprised to find it there. The visual = highlight of the weekend was a pair of Brewster's Warblers. The male = was singing a typical Golden-wing song and the female was carrying food. = The male was a typical backcross as illustrated by Sibley or Dunn and = Garrett. No one seems to illustrate an adult female so it is possible = that it was a female Golden-wing. Unfortunately I did not get a good = look at the underparts of the female. Non-breeding highlights in = Garrett were a drake Ring-necked Duck at Little Meadows Lake and a = Double-crested Cormorant at Piney Dam. My Allegany block has lots of Worm-eating Warblers in it and they = were all carrying food today. It is a great time for atlasing. Lots of = easy confirmations out there. I hope everyone can get out and enjoy it = too.
