MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Glen, The first time I heard a Cooper's Hawk calling in the wild the first thing that came to mind was an it resembled an upset squirrel. And then I saw the hawk actually making the sound near it's nest. It was too early in the season for it to be young birds when I heard it, but that doesn't mean that your bird wasn't a young one. It may be communication between a mated pair. I saw a pair chasing each other early in the spring and doing what appeared to be courting. Congratulations on you observation. It is always nice to hear raptors calling. Especially one you don't get a chance to hear every day. Raptors Rule! Naturally, Mike Callahan, Laurel, Howard County, Maryland " Seemingly unrelated, I heard this very strange noise coming from woods on the next farm to the north. For lack of a better comparison, it sounded like the strident call of a squirrel only much hoarser. Thank you in advance for your input, Glen Lovelace III Seaford, DE " ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
