Even with persistence, you will hear ten times as many as you see, so be sure you can separate the song from Ovenbird and Carolina Wren before you set out. I'm not sure I'd say fairly common around here. My impression is that the "overabundance" of deer has really hit this species hard. The atlas results for this species should be interesting .
