We had a pair breeding in an old holly by our front door a few years ago and one would never have know they were there except for seeing them (through the house windows) flying in and out. An occasional "bell note" but that was it. At this time of year, however, the young birds are fledged or nearly so and you will start hearing more jay noise. We were out today atlasing and heard quite a few jays. Also in our neighborhood, for the first time this summer. Another thing, it does seem that there are fewer Blue Jays around this year, maybe West Nile? Who knows?
