Greetings, This past weekend I saw two American Coots with a medium sized raft of mallard-esque ducks in Havre de Grace near Tidewater Marina. I have noticed a lot more birds in my yard lately. Two consequetive afternoon wolks have produced a descent number of summer residents and observations of many recently fledged birds. After goind all spring with out seeing or hearing any Carolina Wrens I am happy to say that at least 3 young C. Wrens have showed up at the woods edge. Last year my yard was full of Carolina Wrens and they have been noticably absent this year. Other notable Observations were: Gray Catbird (very few this year in my yard) Red-eyed Vireo (many) White-eyed Vireo (singing) Eastern Towhee (occasionally singing- probably nesting nearby) Great-crested Flycatcher (heard) Eastern Wood Pewee (w/ fledglings) Common Yellowthroat (singing from the swamp now for many weeks) Northern Parula (one singing for at least 8 weeks now I believe I glimpsed a couple of these high in the trees -fledglings?)
