Sue, The only nest I have ever found of N. Parula was not up high (which is why I probably found it at all) but was tucked neatly behind a loose piece of bark on a river birch on Tucker Lane in Ashton, along the bottomland of the Patuxent River. This was just a few summers ago. I watched the bird pick up bits and pieces from the ground, then followed her to a side of the tree. I was looking for a cup nest on a branch and was surprised to find her going into a small "pocket" of bark on the side of the tree (which was not terribly large in diameter). Though not built too high (perhaps 20 feet) it was very well concealed. I wonder if many birds have lost nests early, due to rain/wind and are trying to re-nest now? This would be a second nest with a first brood...
